We provide for the development of competent and 多才多艺的 professionals in the field and we are committed to providing experiences that allow for interpersonal depth, and enhanced clinical ability within a multicultural framework. Your internship experience with us will focus on working with a diverse college-年龄 population in a variety of modalities with the intention of helping you become a confident, competent and culturally sensitive clinician.

To prepare doctoral psychology interns to become competent, 多才多艺的, and culturally aware Health Service Psychologists who eng年龄 in, and help others attain, lasting achievement and responsible leadership in their careers and communities.

  1. We have a distinct emphasis on diversity and inclusion training and supervision that applies directly to working with our diverse selection of students (including but not limited to ethnicity, 性别, sexual orientation, 性别 orientation).
  2. We provide dynamic training related to the multifaceted roles needed for a career in college counseling.
  3. We have a strong focus on consultation and 外展 skills and provide numerous opportunities to work with students, 父母, 教师, and campus partners.
  4. We have a well built group therapy program that will provide you with strong didactic training and experience in all types of group therapy (i.e., general process groups, support groups, and psychoeducational groups).
  5. We provide a supportive, 开放, and understanding work environment, and have a true 开放 door policy where our staff are available for our doctoral trainees throughout each day

  • Tri年龄, single session, and ongoing psychotherapy (group, individual, and couples).
  • Emergency and crisis services.
  • Brief assessment of alcohol and substance abuse on a college campus; ongoing outcome assessment through the use of the CCAPS; and one strength based assessment battery used to supplement therapeutic services.
  • 外展, preventative programming, and consultation services for students, 教员/员工, 和父母.

We are an 美国心理学协会-accredited doctoral internship program (APPIC member #127211). We seek high-energy individuals who are 开放 to learning, able to balance multiple roles and responsibilities, receptive to feedback, and motivated to develop a wide range of skills that are expected of a health service psychologist.

Qualifications of Applicants

To be eligible for internship at CAPS, applicants must be enrolled in an 美国心理学协会-accredited doctoral program in either counseling or clinical psychology and should provide documentation on their AAPI that they have professional experience at the practicum level that is consistent with the training goals and objectives of CAPS. Beyond this, we also require the following qualifications:

  1. A minimum of 450 hours of direct face-to-face clinical contact.
  2. All coursework toward the doctoral degree must be completed prior to the start of internship.
  3. Comprehensive exams, or their equivalent, must be completed prior to the application deadline.
  4. US citizenship or an international student with sponsorship through another organization.
  5. Successfully proposed your dissertation prior to the application deadline.
  6. Certification of internship readiness by the candidate's academic program is required.
  7. Demonstrated experience with the college-年龄 population (not necessarily at a university).

  • Submit a completed AAPI through APPIC and NMS.
  • Use your cover letter and essays to discuss how you are a good fit with the internship program at University of the Pacific CAPS, and to help us better understand what your goals are for internship. 
  • Your references should reflect your most recent work, and at least two of your three references should be from licensed psychologists who are familiar with your clinical work.

The internship at University of Pacific, 咨询 and Psychological 服务 provides a full-time, 一年, paid internship.This internship is a 12-month commitment. The internship year begins August 1 and ends July 31. Interns typically reserve their vacation time and use it for the last two weeks of July.

Interns are scheduled 40 hours a week from 8am-5pm. However due to the nature of college counseling and university work, there may be times when you will need to work more than the traditional 40-hour week or participate in after-hours activities such as 外展 programs and crisis intervention. This time will count in your total SPE for the year. Interns are expected to acquire a minimum of 1,850 hours in order to successfully complete the internship, however many interns choose to work extra hours to bring their total up to 2,000.
